About Rebate Spy
What is Rebate Spy?
Rebate Spy is an independent advisory service that helps Australian homeowners navigate battery rebates and connect with vetted installers. We're not an installer ourselves—we're your advocate in the process.
Do you work for installers?
We're not owned by any installer. We work with a small number of vetted retailers and installers and earn a margin on the systems we sell, but we choose who we work with based on quality standards, not on what they pay us.
How do you make money?
The retailers and installers we work with give us their price for the product and the installation, and we add our margin on top. That margin covers our marketing, advisory team and account managers, and it is already included in the price we quote you.
Is this service really free?
Our calculators, guides and enquiry service are free to use, and there's no obligation to proceed. If you go ahead with a system through us, our fee is included in the quoted price — we don't charge you separately.
Getting Started
What states do you cover?
We currently work with homeowners in Victoria. Use the calculator to check your rebates, or find out what you're eligible for and our team will talk you through it.
How long does it take to hear from you?
Most homeowners hear from our team within 24-48 hours of submitting their details. We'll talk through your needs, the rebates you're eligible for and your options.
Will I get multiple installers calling me?
No. Unlike other comparison sites that sell your details to 5+ companies, you deal with our team, and we never sell your details. You won't be bombarded with calls.
What's included in the price you quote me?
The quote covers the product, the installation and our margin — one all-in price with no separate fee for you to pay later. You're free to compare it against other quotes before deciding.
Rebates & Deadlines
What rebates are available?
Three main rebate streams are currently available: the federal STC rebate for new solar systems, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program for battery installations, and Solar Victoria rebates for eligible Victorian homeowners. Many households can stack federal and state rebates together. Use our calculator to see what applies to you.
I heard there was a May 1st deadline — did I miss out?
No. The 1 May 2026 date was when the STC calculation for batteries shifted to a tiered model — but rebates are still very much available. If an installer tells you the rebate is 'about to end' or pressures you to sign because of a deadline, treat that as a red flag.
Can I claim rebates myself?
For most rebates, the installer handles the paperwork and applies the rebate as a discount on your quote. You don't need to do anything special—just make sure you're working with an accredited installer.
Installer Vetting
What makes an installer 'vetted'?
We check for the accreditations required for the rebates, business licensing, insurance, at least 7 years of installation experience, customer reviews, complaint history, and warranty terms. We also look for red flags like high-pressure sales tactics or a history of poor workmanship.
What info do you need to audit a quote?
To review an existing quote, we'd typically look at the system specifications, pricing breakdown, warranty terms, and installer credentials. You can share these with our team when we speak.
Can I suggest an installer to be vetted?
Yes! If you have an installer you'd like us to consider for our network, point them to our 'Partner with Us' page.
