Federal (Australia-wide) Rebates

Two federal programs run nationwide and stack with most state incentives. These are the foundation of any solar or battery quote in Australia.

Active programs

Cheaper Home Batteries Program (CHBP)

≈ $258 per kWh of usable capacity (first 14 kWh), tapered above

Federal battery rebate delivered via STCs. The base multiplier dropped from 8.4 to 6.8 STCs per kWh on 1 May 2026 (~19% reduction). The next scheduled decline is on 1 January 2027, to 5.7 STCs per kWh. The rate that applies depends on the installation date.

Eligibility

  • Battery must be on the CEC approved-products list
  • Installer must be CER-accredited
  • Existing or simultaneous solar PV system
  • Battery sized 5 kWh – 50 kWh usable capacity

Above 14 kWh the rebate tapers: 60% value 14–28 kWh, 15% value 28–50 kWh.

Federal Solar STC Rebate (SRES)

≈ $400–600 per kW installed

Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Deeming period dropped to 4 years on 1 Jan 2026 — STCs continue to decline annually until the scheme ends 31 Dec 2030.

Eligibility

  • System ≤ 100 kW
  • CEC-accredited designer and installer
  • New, complete system installed at eligible address

How Federal rebates stack

Federal CHBP and SRES stack with each other and with most state programs. They do NOT stack with the same kWh being claimed twice (e.g. a state grant and CHBP for the identical battery is usually fine — check fine print).
